I just loaded up Guruterm from the MMC64 to call around for a while. I started to think how nice it would be if it had a transfer system built in that could save to the MMC64. Maybe in another 10-15 years this could be possible

As an aside, I was thinking about how to add a network stack to Craig Bruce's ACE. Getting it into the kernel would be pretty difficult, but it may be feasible to graft the first-class VT100 code onto the guts of GuruTerm. ACE is pretty modular and everything communicates over a simple API.

What are your thoughts Rave, are you keeping the guts separate from the screen code?

Well.. currently the screen code in GuruTerm consists of one line of assembler code:

JSR $FFD2

So I guess that's a Yes

Well that's not all true. I'm taking care of Cursor drawing aswell. But Terminal emulation could be implemented fairly easily I believe.

Cool, the VT100 code in ACE is magic, just needs to be converted to a different assembler. Then converted away from the ACE kernel. That probably wouldn't be too bad, but I think the 80 column rendering is done in the kernel, so that would be a trickier job.

Still, 40 column VT is better than no VT100.

I'm sure there is plenty of open source VT100 code out there, just laying around, waiting to be used though. Would save the hassle of ripping and backporting the ACE code at least.
